We call it Good Friday. But if you were a follower of Jesus when the sky turned dark at noon and Jesus took His last breath, you would have struggled to see the goodness.

It seemed like the worst day in human history. The Savior of the world, dead on a cruel Roman cross.

Jesus’ disciples tried to make sense of it all. They asked hard questions and hid in fear. Finally, they went back to their old jobs, believing all was lost…

They had forgotten the promise Jesus told them just before His death. “…You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy (John 16:20b).

Good Friday reminds us that death, doubt, and despair are not the end of the story. Instead, they often become the greatest displays of God’s goodness and the most meaningful ways He draws us to Himself.

As you reflect on Jesus’ death today, we pray that you see God’s goodness in the dark places. We also ask you to pray for those living in the toughest places who have yet to hear the good news about Him.

On Good Friday death gave way to life. Sorrow soon turned to joy. And questions gave way to hope!
