Keeping our State Secure |
America faces a growing threat from adversarial nations that are attempting to buy up American farmland and land near our critical infrastructure.
This is why I supported a new law that better protects our communities by preventing individuals and businesses from adversarial nations like China, Russia and North Korea from obtaining farmland and any land within a 10-mile radius of a military base in Indiana.
Last year, I also co-authored a law that prohibits the Indiana Public Retirement System from investing in companies controlled by the People's Republic of China or the Chinese Communist Party. In doing so, the state better protected our economic foundation and Hoosiers' hard-earned money.
When we safeguard our land, military and investments from adversarial nations, we keep our communities, economy and food supply chain secure. That's why I was pleased to support this crucial legislation and help address a security issue that not only impacts Hoosiers but all Americans.

Indiana National Guardsmen Depart for Texas |
On Thursday, members of the Indiana National Guard departed for Texas in an effort to protect our nation's southern border.
In February, I sent a letter to Gov. Holcomb encouraging the deployment of our National
Guardsmen to the southern border. I am in full support of the governor's decision and hope it will encourage other states to join in the effort to secure our nation's border.
A departure ceremony was held at Camp Atterbury and several state officials were in attendance, including Gov. Eric Holcomb and Maj. Gen. Dale Lyles, both of whom spoke at the ceremony.
It is important all Hoosiers stand
with our brave men and women as they travel to Texas. The Biden Administration's careless open-border policies have put our country at extreme risk, but I am proud that our state is standing up against these policies and joining forces with Texas to ensure that our borders are protected. I thank our guardsmen for their dedication to keeping our country and communities safe.

Local Farms Named Hoosier Homesteads
|
The following farms in Senate District 17 received Hoosier Homestead awards, which recognize farms owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more.
Hoosier farmers are the backbone of our state's economic success, contributing nearly $35.1 billion to Indiana's economy. Longstanding family farms are the reason why rural Indiana represents the core of Hoosier excellence. I commend these families for their dedication to Indiana's agriculture production and congratulate them for receiving this exceptional honor.
The Hoosier Homestead Award Program honors families who have made significant contributions to Indiana agriculture. Instituted in 1976, the program has recognized more than 6,000 family farms that have impacted Indiana's economic, cultural and social advancement.
