Legislative Update
Last week I presented a bill (HF310) during the Public Safety Finance and Policy Committee that would provide more criteria to be met in order to place level 3 sex offenders in neighborhoods after their release. This is something I have been working on for two years now, since an incident in Victoria. The safety of our children should be a top priority. Two years ago, in the City of Victoria, a level 3 sex offender was placed in a neighborhood that was home to 728 children. In his court case file, it was said that he sexualized the voices of children, and yet he was still placed in a heavily child-populated area.
During this committee I invited a testifier from Victoria, Zach Husted, who shared his concerns about the safety of his own children, and all the children in his community. Mr. Husted had to take away the innocence of his children by explaining that their safety was at risk due to a sexual predator, something that no parent should have to do. The goal of this bill is to make sure that level 3 sex offenders are placed in the appropriate area after matching a higher level of criteria.
To watch Mr. Husted's testimony, and hear more about the bill from committee last week, i strongly urge you to follow this link. 1:13:05
