WG Discussion Points: Where Is The Most

Potential For Crossover Vote?

WG Discussion Points| David Winston

March 22, 2024

Crossover vote has played a role in the outcome of Congressional races in 2020 and 2022. In 2020, Senator Susan Collins won 18% of Biden voters in her state of Maine that voted for President Biden by 9 points. In 2022, crossover vote cost Republicans the Senate in states like NH and GA. In New Hampshire, 21% of GOP Governor Chris Sununu's voters voted for the Senate Democratic incumbent Maggie Hassan over Republican Don Bolduc. In Georgia, Herschel Walker underperformed other statewide races such as the Agriculture Commissioner and State School Superintendent. With the two presidential frontrunners having negative brand images, we may see significant crossover vote behavior again in down-ballot races. In our latest survey for Winn the Issues (February 24-25), we explored vote behavior to see where the greatest potential for crossover vote may be this year, and to what extent independents demonstrate partisan voting behavior.

On Friday, Chairman Avella joined Fox Business Channel's Ashley Webster on Varney & Co. to talk about President Biden taking swipes at President Trump as the race to the White House heats up.
