** Simon Harris’s decision to reject mandatory ultrasounds in abortion has put women’s lives at risk
------------------------------------------------------------
An article in the Irish Medical Journal has disclosed a harrowing incident wherein a woman faced a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy subsequent to undergoing a medical abortion.
The publication describes a Limerick woman who had undergone a medical abortion two weeks prior to her hospital admission due to an ectopic pregnancy. It emphasizes that this situation "could have been prevented with an ultrasound to ascertain the pregnancy's location".

Carol Nolan TD and others warned the Government back in 2018 that cases like the one that just happened in Limerick would occur if they ignored the amendments they were seeking to the abortion bill.
The question is - how many similar cases have arisen under the new law that haven't been reported? We need an urgent answer to this question.

** US Supreme Court hears arguments in major case related to abortion pills
------------------------------------------------------------
Yesterday, the United States Supreme Court listened to oral arguments in the cases FDA v. Alliance Hippocratic Medicine and Danco Laboratories, L.L.C. v. Alliance Hippocratic Medicine.
The Food and Drug Administration is facing legal action due to its negligent and politically motivated approval of the hazardous chemical abortion pill. Since its approval, the FDA has systematically abandoned vital safeguards for women using this drug. This case offers the Court an opportunity to safeguard women and their infants from the dangers associated with the abortion pill.

** 7,681 abortions in the six counties since March 2020
------------------------------------------------------------
The northern Department of Health has revealed in a reply to a question tabled by Jim Allister MLA that there have been 7,681 abortions carried out in the six counties between March 2020 and 15 February 2024. By contrast, 65 abortions took place in the north between 2014 to 2019.
Unlike in the south, there has never been a referendum on this issue and opinion poll data and the results of public consultations suggest that abortion is still very unpopular among most people in the north.
