Housing First policies make homelessness worse. Dallas City Council members ignore the vagrancy problem. It's inhumane to spread out homeless services all over the city.

City Council Buys Hospital for Homeless Housing, Two Years Later It Sits Empty |
|
|
In January 2022, Dallas City Council purchased an abandoned hospital building at 2929 South Hampton Road to convert into “homeless housing.” Seeking to alleviate homelessness in Dallas, the City Council followed the “Housing First” philosophy to give vagrants a roof over their heads before any other interventions. However, two years later, the City Council still has yet to do anything with the property. The council's Committee on Homeless Solutions weighed its options for the vacant hospital this past week. Council members that are fed up are now vying to resell the land. |
| Inaction surrounding the South Hampton Road property only further exposes the failed leadership within the city. Responsible city governance would have rejected the failed status quo and engaged in alternative solutions.
Here at Keep Dallas Safe, we believe in centralizing homeless services following the Haven for Hope model, which has worked in San Antonio. It is foolish to spread homeless services all over the city and expect those who need help to find it. The centralized model will provide the people who want help the assistance that is so badly needed.
Tell your City Council members you are sick of inaction! No more wasting millions on land trying to hide our homeless using the failed Housing First model! We must advocate for better solutions, like Haven for Hope, that are proven to work and stop repeating the same mistakes in Dallas.

Drug deals are on the rise in downtown Dallas, and things don’t seem to be getting any better for the area. Meanwhile, City Council members ignore the problem and allow DPD to continue to be understaffed. The City Council must take accountability for this issue and work to resolve it as soon as possible; our safety is on the line!

Kidnappings Plague Black and Hispanic Community in Dallas |
Criminals are targeting black and Hispanic communities, while DPD lacks the bandwidth to work proactively to stop them. Dallas can never lead in public safety, while our leaders hold us back. Dallas City Council must affirm their commitment to treating safe streets as a civil right!

Executive Director, Joseph Porter, broadcasts on Facebook Live each week, documenting vagrant camps in the city while bringing you real-time updates on the state of homelessness and the apathetic response from Dallas city officials. This week, Joseph went live outside City Hall after a Homeless “Solutions” Committee meeting and exposed the poor governance practiced there.

District 11 Councilwoman Jaynie Schultz's
"Fireside Highway Camp" |
This camp in Jaynie Schultz’s District 11 has been dubbed “Fireside Highway Camp.” Near the intersection of 635 and Coit Road, the entire area smells of burning trash. The vagrants here are setting things on fire as cars drive by. This behavior should be a wake-up call for Councilwoman Schultz and all the other council members. Something must be done about Dallas’s vagrant population! |

District 7 Councilman Adam Bazaldua
"Malcolm X Freedom Camp" |
This camp in Adam Bazaldua’s District 7 has earned the title “Malcolm X Freedom Camp.” This vagrant has set up directly next to the home seen in the background. Property owners are fed up with the lack of enforcement against vagrancy. They pay property taxes to prevent these situations. The status quo MUST change! |

District 2 Councilman Jesse Moreno
"Pigeon Ellum Camp" |
We named this camp in Jesse Moreno’s in District 2 “Pigeon Ellum Camp.” In Deep Ellum, this vagrant has a permanent residence along the sidewalk. Some birds have taken a liking to him as trash accumulates around the encampment. Defiance of the City’s urban camping ban only gets more brazen. Dallas City Council must increase enforcement and make it difficult to live like this in the city. It is the only way!

Mission Statement:
Keep Dallas Safe exists to address crime and homelessness in Dallas with the goal of transforming Dallas into the safest large city in Texas for residents and businesses. We aim to have a City Council that prioritizes crime rate which directly determines the quality of life in Dallas. We do this by fighting against the "defund the police" movement, holding accountable our city leaders' efforts towards lowering district crime rates, and highlighting our city's homelessness problems by pushing for enforcement of the prohibition of urban camping.
