By now you’ve heard about the tragic Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore.

Lost in much of the news around the effort to repair the damage and reopen the port is that despite attempts to clear the bridge before the collision, six construction workers were on the bridge and are now presumed dead.

These six workers were there as part of an all immigrant construction crew who were at work in the middle of the night in order to provide for their families and contribute to the region’s economy.

That idea — that if you work hard and do the right thing, that you can provide a better life for your family — that’s the American Dream. And it’s why I fight back so hard when MAGA Republicans demonize immigrants, and call them rapists and criminals.

And it’s also why today I’m asking you to make a donation to the Baltimore Immigrant Community Fund Key Bridge Emergency Response. While money can of course never replace the loss of a loved one, we can help ease the burden on the families and help the community recover.
