John, allow me to reintroduce myself. My name is Tekesha Martinez, and I’m running to represent my hometown in Congress.
I was brought up in foster care and raised in redlined neighborhoods. I was failed by the system and written off by people in power, but I knew there was more to my story – so I rewrote it.
As I grew in my heart, I stepped up for my community. Fighting every urge to avoid conflict, I became a Community Mediator. Putting myself at the crossroads of conflict, I healed wounds that were too deep for sidewalk streets.
