Folks,
This week we learned that the State-Based Universal Health Care Act (H.R. 6270 or "SBUHCA") will be introduced into the U.S. Senate.
This is a huge opportunity. This bill was originally introduced into the House in 2015 by now-former Washington representative Jim McDermott. Now Senator Ed Markey will be introducing the bill into the Senate – and we need to pressure EVERY senator to sign on as a cosponsor.
I’ve been fighting for single-payer healthcare at the state level for years here in Washington, serving as a board member for Whole Washington and advocating for a nationwide single-payer system.
The State-Based Universal Health Care Act (SBUHCA) would support state-based initiatives like Whole Washington by allocating federal funds in the creation of their own state level programs. Unlike a similar provision in the Affordable Care Act, the SBUHCA adds regulatory protections and important Medicare and ERISA waivers for a more complete package.
This is our chance to build momentum for universal healthcare from the ground up, and we need as many cosponsors as possible.
Please use the following form to automatically send a letter to both of your US Senators asking them to be an original co-sponsor of the Senate version of the SBUHCA. (It takes 2 minutes, tops.)
