Jack,
Jack,
The President of the United States openly admitted earlier this week that the GOP wouldn’t win if voting were easier.
Here’s his direct quote: “The things they had in there were crazy. They had levels of voting, that if you ever agreed to it, you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again.”
He said this, of course, on Fox & Friends -- after Democrats pushed for a $2.2 trillion relief bill that would provide significant election funding in light of the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.
The Republican party has a history of voter disenfranchisement, and the current administration has admitted to this, openly—back in December, a top Trump aide said Republicans have always “relied” on voter suppression.
I shouldn’t have to say this, but I will: Political leaders should not be making calls on election funding or voting accessibility based on their likelihood of getting elected. Period.
If Trump and Republicans are scared of letting Americans vote, it’s because they know they haven't done right by the people. Our fight is far from over—and here in New Mexico, we’re going to lead the country in making voting more accessible than ever.
Let’s go,
Maggie
