Good Friday School Reminder

As you celebrate Easter week, we want to remind you that Texas law protects your religious freedom at school and Texas Values is constantly fighting on your behalf to safeguard your First Amendment rights.

Texas law requires that schools provide an "excused" absence for students that observe a religious holy day, like Good Friday. Texas law does not say that a child must attend a specific religious event.

Texas Education Code 25.087(b)(1)(A) states that:

b) a school district shall excuse a student from attending school for:

(1) the following purposes, including travel for those purposes:

(A) observing religious holy days;

If your student chooses to observe Good Friday and not attend school, the school district must excuse the absence. And Texas law has no requirement that students must provide “documentation” of how they observed the religious holiday.

Supreme Court Abortion Pill Case

Texas Values President, Jonathan Saenz, and Director of Government Relations, Mary Elizabeth Castle, were on the ground at the U.S. Supreme Court for Texas case regarding lack of FDA regulations for chemical abortions.

The FDA has turned chemical abortion into self-managed abortion beating the drum of “abortion access” to the detriment of women’s health. The drumbeat is so loud that the FDA is unable to listen to the reports of those on the frontlines being directly impacted by the FDA’s abandonment of its own safety standards.

An Amicus Brief was filed with the Supreme Court citing the dangers of chemical abortions! Texas Values signed onto the Amicus Brief filed by Family Policy Alliance and State Family Policy Councils.
