"ON THE ROAD WITH TONY..."

Welcome to our March newsletter, and Happy Spring as the weather starts to get a little warmer!

This month, we were fortunate to have some wonderful visitors who participated in school-sponsored field trips to our Jury Room and Circuit Court, like this well-dressed man from Center Line Public Schools in the picture at right.

Also, March is "National Reading Month, so check out the item below about my visit to my alma mater -- St. Germaine's Elementary School in St. Clair Shores.

"Early In-Person Voting" debuted in Macomb County for the February 27, 2024 election. See the item below about some of the great success we had with this new program!

Center Line Schools Visit

Students from the Center Line Public Schools District kicked off a busy month of Clerk's Office visits by touring our Jury Room and the 16th Judicial Circuit Court courtrooms.  In the photo above, Clerk Forlini gave an informative presentation about Jury Duty in Macomb County.

"National Reading Month"
Reading Month

Clerk Forlini got a chance to go back to his "alma mater" St. Germaine's Elementary School in St. Clair Shores as the "mystery guest" reader for "March is Reading" month. Members of Ms. Suchota's first-grade class included Clerk Forlini's nephew's twin daughters, Stella and Grace.

Clerk Forlini read "Tooth Trouble" by Jane E. Clark, which teaches children about good dental hygiene, and "If I Had Your Vote by the Cat in the Hat," a kid-friendly introduction to life in the White House.

Clerk Forlini also handed out tooth brushes to all the students to teach them the importance of Dental Health.

"National Judicial Outreach Program"

student field trip

Students from Ms. Shepherd's second-grade class at South River Elementary School were given a tour of the County Clerk's Office and Jury Room by Macomb County Clerk Anthony G. Forlini in recognition of the Michigan Supreme Court's celebration of the National Judicial Outreach Program.

The students then toured the Lockup and Fingerprint room with Macomb County Sheriff's Deputies and then Circuit Court Judge Joseph Toia's courtroom, where they were given a presentation from Judge Toia, Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Carmen Defranco and Jessica Stephens, Defense Attorney Michael Bakotich and Probation Officer Shannan Vogel from the Michigan Department of Corrections.

The students were presented with a United States Constitution and Declaration of Independence booklet from Judge Toia, and various gift items from Clerk Forlini, Sheriff Anthony Wickersham and the Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development on behalf of County Executive Mark Hackel.

"*"Early Voting Debuts in Macomb County"*"

Facebook Video [ [link removed] ]

Early in-person voting debuted in Macomb County for the February 27, 2024 election.

In November 2022, Michigan voters approved a constitutional amendment that requires local clerks to offer the ability to vote early, in person, at early voting sites before statewide and federal elections.

Part of the legislation required nine consecutive days of early voting. Hats off to our local clerks who did a wonderful job manning the early voting locations -- working through two consecutive weekends before election day.

There were 20 early voting sites across Macomb County, serving the 24 different cities and townships. There were 5,887 ballots cast during early voting, representing 3.5% of all ballots cast in the election.

What voters found was they were able to vote with little to no lines while casting their ballot in the tabulator themselves. Early voting is a fast, convenient and secure way to make your voice heard.

In the facebook video at right, Clerk Forlini talks to Macomb Township Clerk Kristi Pozzi, whose community was No. 1 in Macomb County and No. 4 in the State for getting voters to early vote.
