Governor Green this week also updated the timeline of the state's Maui wildfire recovery, announcing his plan for moving displaced families into more permanent and secure housing communities.
The timeline details progress and coordination among state and Maui County officials, community stakeholders, and federal partners, including FEMA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Josh commended the coordinated efforts and successes in the recovery, including constructing housing, reopening school facilities, and increasing federal investment.
"Despite the adversity and devastation its people have faced, Maui’s resilience has been remarkable," Governor Green said. “Just as its communities have been unwavering in their tenacity, our commitment to supporting Maui remains firm. We will continue to provide immediate assistance as well as laying the groundwork for long-term recovery.”
The partners in the recovery effort have already moved more than 60% of families displaced by the fires into long-term housing.
"We are not just constructing buildings; we are restoring livelihoods and communities," Josh said. “We will make sure that we use every resource we have effectively, and every family receives the help they need to rebuild.”
We will continue to keep you updated on Governor Green’s efforts on the Maui recovery and other important issues.
Mahalo,
