Day 6:  Media collusion, Coronavirus and the killing of the unborn

Dear Friend and Supporter,

On Friday, I reported that it hasn’t taken the abortion industry long to Exploit a National Crisis.

As the Government was preparing to lock down Britain last week, an announcement trickled out that women would be permitted to abort their baby themselves, at HOME.

This shocking new policy has now been confirmed.

These are NOT “ordinary” home abortions.

Under “normal” circumstances the second of two abortion drugs is self-administered at home to expel the baby’s dead body.  The first drug– which kills the baby – is taken in a clinical setting.

  • The new DIY home abortions will involve self-administrating the first drug, mifepristone, at home too without ANY medical supervision

  • For the first time ever, women and girls are being given sole responsibility for actually killing their baby.

  • I said that the toll which mifepristone (also known as RU-486) takes on women was described by the Chairman of the company who developed it as “an appalling psychological ordeal".
When the business profiting by its sale recognises the traumatic effects associated with this drug, it’s time for people who care to sit up and take notice.

But, that’s where the problem is.

If you’re a woman having a DIY home abortion arranged for you, it’s very unlikely that those advising you, like BPAS, would warn of the “appalling” mental AND physical side-effects that could lie in store for you.

But maybe that’s not such a problem if you’ve easy access to an alternative source of trusted information that you can rely on, like the mainstream media.

After all, those august champions of women’s rights, like the Guardian, BBC and Channel 4, wouldn’t shy away from blowing the whistle and holding the big pharmaceutical corporations to account, would they?

I’m talking here about facts like these:
  • In one study , complications after medical abortion were four times higher than surgical ones – 20% compared to 5.6%.

  • Government stats for England and Wales show complications involving hospitalisation are more than twice as likely after medical abortions than after surgical ones: 206 compared to 88.

  • The incidence of haemorrhage – a leading factor in maternal deaths – is considerably higher in women undergoing medical abortion. This study of 42,600 women found rates of consultation for haemorrhage were 15.6% after medical abortion compared to 2.1% after surgical abortion.

After all, reporting important research findings like these which alert women to the dangerous side-effects of pharmaceutical drugs is what the BBC et al, do.

Right?

Well— if you were tuned into the BBC Radio 5 Live broadcast last Wednesday (25 March) you could be forgiven for seriously doubting this.

The institution we have all grown up with, and have even come to revere as the nation’s favourite “aunty”’, dedicated a 15-minute primetime slot to discussing the government’s decision to overturn DIY abortions the previous day.

On the one hand we had the extremely vocal pro-abortion BBC presenter, Emma Barnett, hosting the show.

The only other participant in the ”debate” was Dame Lesley Regan a prominent leader of the abortionists’ “trade union”, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

Regan is also a board member of Bpas.  This abortion “charity” employs over 700 paid staff, ten of whom were paid in excess of £100k last year to kill 87,000 unborn children across England, Wales and Scotland.

Not quite what you would call “impartial” and “fair” journalism “operat[ing] in the public interest” with “[editorial] integrity”. See below:

Its Royal Charter requires that the BBC’s journalism be “impartial” – but is it?

From start to finish the whole interview was a shameless puff-piece for DIY abortions and full-on pro-abortion campaigning on the BBC’s part.

We heard specious arguments about backstreet abortion in Britain before widescale abortion was introduced with the Abortion Act in 1967.

BBC Bias: Abortion apologist and presenter, Emma Barnett, has a long history of using her tax-payer funded BBC radio programmes as a platform for promoting the killing of babies and denouncing the pro-life movement

Then hard-case horror stories were trotted out about backstreet abortions in developing countries and claimed pregnancy-related deaths worldwide, as if they had anything whatever to do with the question of DIY abortions, coronavirus and pressures on an over-stretched NHS.

And all this propaganda was rolled out without any opposition whatsoever.

There wasn’t a single mention of the defenceless baby.  Or the psychological horrors and health risks women undergoing DIY abortions must face, which ironically, are no more than a back-street abortion in a house

Taking the strain off the NHS … or piling it on?

Lesley Regan and Emma Barnett fell over themselves to emphasise that not permitting women to take both pills at home was seriously putting their health at risk.

And this risk appeared to be solely the risk of contracting the coronavirus and the strain this would place upon an already struggling-to-cope National Health Service.

If, and it’s a big if, Emma Barnett and Lesley Regan truly cared about (a) women and (b) protecting frontline NHS services, they would NOT be calling for the rollout of DIY abortions.

On the contrary, with all the attendant health risks that DIY abortions pose to women–including increased haemorrhaging and subsequent rises in hospitalisation – they should be demanding the permanent LOCKDOWN of DIY abortions in this current medical crisis.

Calling out pro-abortion bias at the BBC

As far back as 2003, the BBC has made its position on abortion crystal clear.

  • Its flagship current affairs programme, Panorama, devoted a whole episode entitled, Sex and the Holy City, to attacking the Catholic Church for its pro-life stance.

On that occasion, SPUC produced a 30-page report, here, which it delivered to the BBC Director General citing example after example of biased reporting and demanded a level playing field for the pro-life side.

  • In 2017, a campaign launched by SPUC called for the resignation of BBC Director General, Tony Hall, after the BBC granted the pro-abortion lobby a platform to promote its deadly agenda unchallenged.

The much-publicised BBC Two documentary, Abortion On Trial, which ‘celebrated’ the 50th anniversary of the Abortion Act, and was hosted by well-known abortion supporter Anne Robinson, included a blatant call to decriminalise abortion.
  • More recently, in 2019, the popular BBC drama series, Call the Midwife, pushed pro-abortion story-lines in two episodes, here. Afterwards viewers were guided to an NHS website which included advice on how to get an abortion, but there was nothing from the pro-life side on the alternatives.

When SPUC complained, its reply was published, but the point we raised about the absence of a pro-life helpline was edited out.

Unless you are lucky enough to be informed – like the 11,000 subscribers to SPUC’s news service receiving this email today – it is very UNLIKELY you would hear about the dangers of DIY abortions.

Who will let women know?

Standing united together, the SPUC family can make a lot of difference.

Forwarding this email to someone you know – right now if you could – is one way to let women know.

And your continued support of SPUC’s communications outreach makes a huge difference too.

Your kind one-off donations and monthly direct debit contributions are a crucial source of income which allow our skilled SPUC researchers and writers to set to work every day.

They are constantly unearthing the kind of facts “missed” by the mainstream media.

And they are a crucial counter-balance to the bias in the mainstream news media, which is so badly needed.

And they provide a trusted source of pro-life news and analysis which is entirely FREE to subscribers all over the world.

And it doesn’t stop there:

  • We make it our business to ensure that journalists, politicians, educators and faith leaders with influence are being constantly fed important news and developments too.
  • A week rarely goes by without a member of the SPUC team appearing or being quoted in the media.
Whether it’s BBC Newsnight, the Daily Mail, Sky News or Radio 4, your loyal support ensures that a strong voice is getting through for the unborn.

SPUC’s growing TV, radio and press presence has helped redress the balance and win new support for the pro-life position.  Above, SPUC’s Deputy CEO, John Deighan, and below, Campaigns and Parliamentary Assistant, Alithea Williams, appear live on TV.

That’s why SPUC invests so much in its media outreach operation.

And that’s why it is so vital that we meet our £250,000 target. Achieving this would safeguard our communications work at this uncertain time.

Will you help see our Society safeguard its online news service—one of the very first of its kind—which has been getting the facts to the pro-life movement since 1999?

Will you help us get the truth out to journalists so we can fight pro-abortion bias in the media and create a level-playing field for the pro-life side?

I cannot emphasise enough how vital it is that a strong voice for our babies can be heard over the clamour of those powerful bodies who want to kill them.

Will you help safeguard the work of SPUC’s communication’s team, its talented writers and researchers and those who bravely speak out on radio and TV week-in-week out on behalf our babies, so we can continue this vital work in the months ahead?

Will you help ensure that SPUC’s capacity to fight on over the next 4 critical months is not diminished by a devastating cash-crisis that threatens to shut down this vital voice for the unborn?
  • If every person reading this email today were to set up a Direct Debit for £15 per month here [or increases an existing Direct Debit contribution to SPUC by that same amount], that would see us through this current cash-crisis and guarantee our babies the voice they deserve
And I repeat, that what I am asking calls for a super-human sacrifice on your part at a time of great economic uncertainty.

Indeed, making a contribution right now could well be an heroic one.
  • If you are unable to give by Direct Debit online, perhaps you would consider donating £15 or possibly £25 or £100 or £500 with your credit or debit card today here

  • Larger offerings in the range of £1,000 or £5,000 or even £10,000 or more, not only guarantee that this vital work goes on, but ensures that more lives are saved too.
