Most Americans say they haven’t met a trans person…an unfamiliarity extremist politicians leverage to push discriminatory laws. Over 500 anti-trans bills have already been introduced this year, of which 15 passed. We have to protect the transgender community and take action to stop more bills from passing now.
Transgender Day of Visibility is on March 31. One important way you can show up this year is to email your representatives demanding they oppose any discriminatory laws that come their way.
GLAAD research has shown that not only do these laws harm everyone, but they don’t reflect the priorities of most voters. A supermajority of Americans support nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ people, so let’s make sure our representatives know. Send a message now.
Another way you can show solidarity is to help amplify the voices of transgender people, familiarize yourself with the issues facing the community, support trans stories and storytellers, and take action when possible. You can watch and read some wonderful media stories that were nominated for GLAAD Media Awards this year and learn more about how you can become a better ally to the transgender community.
Your voice matters. Thank you for taking action this Transgender Day of Visibility and beyond.
