MARCH 28, 2024

Check out our new site!

Folks!

It’s here, it’s here, it’s here! After months of behind-the-scenes work we are THRILLED to show off our new site and brand at www.checkmyads.org!

As the adtech industry’s only watchdog, Check My Ads is forging a permanent path to a safe and democratic process by advocating for industry standards built on transparency, integrity, and collaboration with citizens, advertisers, and regulators.

Sometimes that work takes the form of forcing Google to stop funding scammers. Other times it’s showing how keyword blocklists hurt journalism, filing complaints with the FTC, or preparing reports for the UN.

Restoring trust and stewardship to the ad ecosystem is required to safeguard the democratic process. Thank you for working toward that goal with us.

Head on over to www.checkmyads.org, click around, and let us know what you think by sending an email to [email protected]!

And if you’ve ever wanted to tell a friend about us, there’s no better time than now.

WHAT WE'RE READING

⚡️

ChatGPT’s boss claims nuclear fusion is the answer to AI’s soaring energy needs. Not so fast, experts say.

AI consumes so much energy it threatens to make climate change worse, so it’s no surprise that big names in AI are pitching pie-in-the-sky cleaner energy alternatives. But solutions need to be grounded in reality, as CNN details. How AI is used is something we’re concerned about — we recently published a report about its climate threats, and our reporter Rachel Gilmore broke it all down here in a video.

🐴 Inside marketing’s elusive Quixote quest for digital ad transparency

Is the ad industry actually changing and getting more transparent after a brutal year? Digiday’s Seb Joseph says “there are indeed glimmers of real change. It may not be much, admittedly, but it’s a start — one that’s long overdue.”

👎 Google continues to run advertising on Russian disinformation sites

The headline says it all. A NewsGuard report found Google monetizing sites that spread disinformation, in violation of its own policies. Oh yeah, and it’s a problem we reported on in 2022.

Whether this is a long weekend or a short weekend for you, we hope you get to make the most of it. See you next week!

Hugs,
