Currently, comprehensive demographic data on the racial and ethnic
characteristics of people who are tested and treated for COVID-19 does not
exist — meaning we have no way to identify and address potential
disparities.
This needs to change immediately.
That’s why I — in partnership with Senator Elizabeth Warren and other
lawmakers — sent a letter to the Secretary of Health and Human Services
demanding that HHS monitor and address racial disparities in our country’s
response to the COVID-19 public health crisis.

collect the data necessary to address racial and ethnic disparities in our
country’s response to COVID-19?

Already, communities of color disproportionately lack access to
high-quality, affordable healthcare and are more likely to be living with
preexisting conditions like asthma, diabetes, and cancer. Decades of
discrimination and marginalization have left communities of color
especially vulnerable to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As we address this public health crisis and continue efforts to flatten
the curve, we must ensure that our most vulnerable and marginalized
communities are being centered in our response efforts.

ethnic demographic data on testing and treatment for COVID-19 in order to
address existing disparities.
Thank you for making your voice heard today. Together we will continue to
fight for justice and equity.
In solidarity,
Ayanna Pressley
