Although public schools are usually managed through independent school districts, local governments can collaborate and partner with school board officials, teachers, and community leaders to achieve policy goals.

Unleashing Worker Power: Building Good Jobs Beyond the Traditional Workforce System was released at the inaugural Good Jobs Collaborative event in Washington, D.C. The report shows how three worker-led organizations, including the Milwaukee Area Service and Hospitality Workers Organization (MASH), build workforce development strategies that center workers, challenge inequities, and raise job quality for all. Pedestrian fatalities in the United States have been on the rise, and the half hour after sunset is one of the most hazardous times of the day for pedestrians. A New York Times article coupled with analysis from Madison, Wisconsin found that pedestrian fatalities are highest at night, peaking 15-20 minutes after sunset. They looked across different states, months, and years to see how the patterns change and found similar spikes in deaths around 20-50 minutes before sunrise. A confluence of factors seem to be prevalent around this time: high traffic and pedestrian volumes, poor visibility, and a built environment that encourages speed. State Smart Transportation Initiative's latest blog post delves into this research, recommending several policy and behavioral changes to increase safety.
