Dear Audubon Advocate,
Since 1970 we have lost three billion North American birds, most of which are migratory species, such as the beloved Rufous Hummingbird. This western species migrates to Mexico during the winter and has lost 60 percent of its population during this time span.
***TAKE ACTION***
The Migratory Birds of the Americas Conservation Enhancements Act is bipartisan legislation that would increase on-the-ground conservation projects to help birds and the places they need. Please ask your U.S. Representative and Senators to support this critical legislation: [link removed]
More than half of our nation's bird species migrate to Latin America and the Caribbean for wintering habitats, including orioles, warblers, shorebirds, and more. These neotropical migrants face a complex range of threats, including development, invasive species, and climate change.
This legislation would support more bird conservation projects across the Western Hemisphere by reducing barriers to participation in the Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act grant program, and giving the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service resources to help implement the program successfully.
