Dear John,

The House Republican Study Committee (RSC), a large and powerful group of GOP lawmakers that counts House Speaker Mike Johnson among its members, has released their budget plan for fiscal year 2025 — and it’s all about giving more to the wealthy and huge corporations while making painful cuts to Social Security and Medicare.

Here are just a few of the measures contained in the RSC’s budget proposal, which would be devastating for older Americans like you:

  • It cuts more than $1.5 trillion from Social Security, beginning with $73 billion in cuts this year, and increases the retirement age;

  • It calls for expanding the privatization of traditional Medicare which would make it harder for beneficiaries to choose their own doctors;

  • It restores price gouging power to Big Pharma by rolling back critical drug pricing reforms passed in the last Congress that are helping lower Rx costs for seniors and saving Medicare billions of dollars;

  • It doubles down on massive tax cuts for the wealthy and huge corporations, instead of requiring the wealthy to pay their fair share of taxes into Social Security; and

  • It weakens the Affordable Care Act and reduces funding for Medicaid, which helps seniors afford long-term care services and support.

Please voice your opposition to this benefit-cutting budget plan by signing our Emergency Petition to Congress today!

The RSC’s budget is the height of hypocrisy. This is the same group that feigns concern about soaring budget deficits, but then turns around and calls for expanding the Trump-GOP tax cuts for the wealthy, which added more than $2 trillion to budget deficits.

During this important election year, the only way we can fight back — and win — against policies that continue to feather the nests of the wealthy and huge corporations at the expense of workers and retirees is with your active involvement in petition campaigns like this. So please sign our petition today!

Sincerely,

Max Richtman
