Were you surprised when Roe v. Wade was dismantled by the Supreme Court?
A lot of Americans were, even people who pay attention to the court were surprised. For me, I was shocked, but not surprised. That seems like a pretty small difference. So let me break down what I mean.
We'd known for years that the far-right agenda was built around ending reproductive rights in America. I was in the Senate for the first two years of the Trump presidency, so I saw Trump and Mitch McConnell steal seats on the bench and pack them with any anti-choice judge with a pulse. So, I was not surprised when Roe v. Wade fell so quickly or by the chaos that ensued, but I was shocked to see it all happen so fast.
But how did this happen? We lost key elections.
2014, 2016, and 2018 were all elections that mattered. Because far-right Republicans won the Senate in all three elections, and Trump won in 2016, they packed the court and soon, Roe wouldn't stand a chance.
Here's why this all matters to you today:
The far-right's new goal is a national abortion ban. And they have Trump's backing for a national ban too. 2024 may be the election that will decide if you have any reproductive freedoms left a year from now. Rights that dictate whether you can access life-saving abortion care, whether you can grow your family using IVF treatment, or whether reproductive best practices are still the standard of care in your state.
I started One Country Project because I knew we needed to connect with and organize rural communities if we wanted to win elections in the future. And that's what we are doing this year, connecting and organizing voters who will decide the outcome of the 2024 election. Can you chip in $16 today and help us build the grassroots movement that will stand up for reproductive rights and end the extremist policies hurting women and families? [[link removed]]
Our movement is growing every day, but we need your help to grow it even further.
