This message is about mothers who are on a mission

John,

Julianne Moore here. You’re probably wondering why I’m writing to you today, but I have something important I want to share.

This message is about mothers who are on a mission to end gun violence in America.

I remember December 14, 2012 – the day of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School – like it was yesterday. My daughter was 10 years old at the time, and she asked me, “Mom, did a bunch of little kids get shot today?” When I heard that, I knew I had to do more in the fight to keep my kids safe from the epidemic of gun violence. I became a “mother on a mission” – just like Lucy McBath.

Just a few weeks before the shooting at Sandy Hook, Lucy McBath experienced the tragedy of her son Jordan being shot and killed in another act of senseless gun violence. I’m in awe of her determination to share her story with the world and turn her pain into purpose by leading the movement to enact life-saving gun safety policies. First, as an advocate and activist – and now, as a member of Congress serving her third term.

But now, her leadership on this issue has made her a top target of Republicans and the NRA. They’ve tried to gerrymander her out of Congress not once but twice, and now she’s facing a competitive primary to win re-election. As we approach her last end-of-quarter deadline before the May primary, will you rush a donation to help Lucy continue leading this fight in Congress?

After the shooting at Sandy Hook, many of us hoped that elected officials would finally take decisive action toward ending gun violence. But since then, we’ve seen countless more deadly school shootings – and there were more mass shootings in 2023 than any other year on record.

As an actor, I believe in the power of storytelling to power change. Lucy McBath refuses to stop sharing the story of her son Jordan, and I know that she can win the hearts and minds needed to make real progress. It’s on all of us to make sure Lucy has the platform and resources to keep up this critical work.

For me, this fight to end gun violence is about my two children – and all the children around the country. It’s about Lucy’s son, Jordan. It’s about every family in this country who has lost parents, siblings, children, and loved ones to this epidemic.

Lucy McBath is in this fight for the long haul, and I am too.

If you’re with me, please rush a donation to Lucy McBath before her end-of-quarter fundraising deadline on Sunday at midnight. Her primary is less than two months away and every dollar counts.

Thank you,

Julianne Moore
