Today, I hope you will join me in wishing the matriarch of our New York progressive movement and our congresswoman, Nydia Velázquez, a Happy Birthday! 

As an elected official in New York, I have experienced firsthand the passion, determination, and dedication Nydia puts into our progressive movement. From my first underdog race for City Council to my role now as the Brooklyn Borough President, Nydia’s mentorship and support have been tremendous assets I will never take for granted. 

We have all benefited from her ongoing work to diversify our elected officials, protect tenants and small businesses, and fight for working families. This year more than ever before, Nydia and House Democrats have faced extreme challenges and roadblocks from Republicans in Congress – paralyzing the work of the House. 

But Nydia has not let that derail her. She has continued to introduce and fight for legislation that will protect victims of abuse, fight hate crimes, bolster Puerto Rico’s economy and recovery, support affordable and public housing, and combat climate change. 

Nydia spends 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year, dedicated to ensuring a progressive future for our community. Today, on her birthday, join me and show her how much we appreciate her work by making a donation to her re-election campaign >>
