Want to score a major victory against gun violence AND Trump?

Then you want to be part of our efforts to score big progressive victories
in this year’s elections in Virginia, where every seat in the state Senate
and House of Delegates is on the ballot.

Here’s why:

Both chambers of the state legislature have Republican majorities BY ONLY
ONE [1] VOTE.

That means we only need to flip 4 Republican seats statewide to flip the
entire legislature to Democratic control (2 seats each in the House and
Senate).

And at the top of the Democrats’ agenda if they take majority control in
the legislature? Common-sense gun reform!

Thanks to the work we and our allies have been doing – and the tremendous
support of PFAW members – Virginia has gotten more and more progressive
over the last several elections. But one effect of Republican control of
the legislature, in the state that was once the seat of the Confederacy,
has been that Virginia has very lax gun laws … and this has an impact
beyond just Virginia.

Gun violence in neighboring jurisdictions with stricter gun laws, like
Washington, DC, is fueled by weapons purchased in – you guessed it –
Virginia.

But gun reform isn’t the only reason why winning in Virginia – and
completing the work we’ve done over the past 8 years to turn this
critically important battleground state completely blue, one election at a
time – is so important.

* Victory in Virginia will be a resounding rejection of Trumpism and
right-wing hate – especially because of the far-right extremist
candidates Republicans have on the ballot…

* Victory in Virginia will give Democrats control of the redistricting
process and stop Republicans from continuing to gerrymander the state
maps – this also has national implications because U.S. congressional
districts are in play...

* Victory in Virginia will be a bellwether for 2020 and could kick start
the blue wave we need to sweep Trump and his enablers out of office…

* In addition to progress on gun violence issues, victory in Virginia
will also mean the difference in protecting women’s rights and
reproductive freedom in a state where Republicans have the right to
choose in their crosshairs … in protecting LGBTQ equality … in
expanding health care to tens of thousands of people who need it … in
combatting climate change and environmental degradation … and so much
more.

We’ve endorsed dozens of progressive champions on the ballot – some of
whose races are among the tightest in the state.

And we’re pulling out all the stops to mobilize the Latino vote, organize
progressive volunteers, run impactful ads, put boots on the ground, and
more to create a state-level blue wave that carries over nationally into
2020.
