Dear Friend,

I’m happy to announce that we’re making some major improvements across our North Texas communities. We just passed the 2024 government funding bills into law, which include investments I helped secure for 15 North Texas projects. This includes funding for public safety, manufacturing, energy, parks, and infrastructure at the Dallas Police Department, DFW Airport, the University of Texas at Dallas, the YMCA, DART and more.

North Texas Community Projects:

Dallas Police Department – Investigation Software: $500,000 for software to allow officers and detectives to analyze gaming sites, social media and dark web chats for violence, hate and other crimes. The start of violent actions begins online in most cases.

City of Dallas – White Rock Lake Environmental Infrastructure: $2,000,000 in funding to begin pre-construction activities for the dredging of White Rock Lake, which hasn’t been dredged since 1998.

City of Dallas – Garland Road Next Generation Planning: $1,000,000 to continue to work with TxDOT to transform the Garland Road corridor in East Dallas for better multi-modal use.

City of Richardson – UTD Area Mobility Improvements: $1,000,000 for the construction of three traffic signals and a multi-use trail around UTD’s campus and Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Silver Line Rail station at UTD to improve multimodal transportation.

DART – Cityplace/Uptown Station Tunnel Fire Standpipes Replacement: $1,000,000 for an upgraded fire suppression system that will help firefighters quickly respond to any fire-related emergencies.

DFW Airport – Mobile Command Post: $2,000,000 for a Mobile Command Post that would serve as a coordination, communication and command center during emergencies.

DFW Airport
– Mobile Bomb Squad Response Vehicles: $963,000 for the purchase of two Mobile Bomb Squad Response Vehicles to improve command and control abilities at the first responder level during large-scale events.

Southern Methodist University – Improving Communities Through Smart, and Resilient Infrastructure Investments: $963,000 to partner with Dallas College to research investments in resilient infrastructure, addressing threats to the nation’s infrastructure and the resulting devastation to communities, with disproportionate impacts for underserved populations.

Texas A&M University-Commerce at Dallas – Sustainable Urban Agriculture: $1,000,000 to support sustainable urban agriculture. This project invests in urban agriculture methods like drip-irrigated permanent raised beds and controlled environment hydroponic systems in order to support solutions to food insecurity.

Trinity Park Conservancy – Safe Crossing over Beckley Ave: Pedestrian/Bike Land Bridge: $850,000 to help with the construction of a land bridge between the West Overlook and the western levee of the Trinity River – connecting pedestrians and cyclists over Beckley Avenue and onto the trails taking them to Dallas’ urban corridors. Harold Simmons Park will transform the Trinity River from a line of division into a natural gathering place for Dallas.

UT-Dallas – Next-Gen Battery Manufacturing Incubator: $1,666,279 to meet the rapidly increasing needs for battery technology innovation, manufacturing and workforce training with state-of-the-art battery tools.

UT-Dallas – Research and Innovation High Performance Computing Center: $963,000 to address highly complex, computationally challenging problems. It will research wind energy, advanced manufacturing, cybersecurity, virtual reality, battery storage, smart cities and new therapeutics. The Center will both educate students and train the next generation of computer scientists and engineers.

UT-Dallas – Center for Secure and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence: $963,000 to work on rigorously testing existing and emerging artificial Intelligence (AI) models and develop new protective AI models that can guard against malicious use. The Center will develop standards for ethical implementation and the use of AI models to help doctors and patients.

YMCA Metropolitan Dallas – Park South Capital Project: $1,000,000 to tear down the old Park South Family YMCA and construct a new one in South Dallas. Built in 1970, it is in dire need of a complete revitalization to address widening gaps in health, wellness, education, economic opportunity, safety and quality of life.

I’m grateful to have worked with local leaders and members of our community to help bring these investments home. These projects benefit our entire region and will create jobs, bolster public safety, support police and first responders' work to keep us safe, and invest in our infrastructure.

We’re accepting submissions for 2025 Community Project Funding requests until 6:00 PM ET on Thursday, April 4, 2024. Visit my website to submit a request.

It’s an honor to deliver for North Texas, where I was born and raised.

Sincerely,
