Dear John,
Twenty-eight years ago, Secretary of State Elaine Marshall broke through a political glass ceiling by becoming the first woman ever elected to statewide office in North Carolina. Today, I am humbled and honored to have her endorsement to continue my service as State Auditor.

We flipped another page in the history books in December when Governor Cooper appointed me as State Auditor, stating, “I’m confident that, thanks to her intelligence, integrity and experience, she will make major contributions to the success of our state.”
It is a distinct honor to be the first African American woman to ever serve on North Carolina’s Council of State. It took over 230 years for this glass ceiling to be broken, and with your help, we can break another political glass ceiling by electing the best candidate and first African American woman to the Council of State.
As we celebrate this historic milestone, we must also recognize that the journey towards equal representation for women, especially women of color, is far from over. Too many glass ceilings remain unbroken in our society and in our state.
With your support, we can protect this hard-won progress and continue paving the way for even more women to take on leadership roles. The primary results show that we are in a pivotal fight to uphold our shared values of integrity, transparency, and accountability that North Carolinians deserve from all of our elected officials.
Please join Elaine Marshall in contributing to ensure that the State Auditor’s office remains in principled hands committed to serving all North Carolinians.
