John,
Last week, Speaker MAGA Mike Johnson said out loud what we’d all been guessing all along. The Republican “fiscal commission” will not consider raising new revenue by making the rich and corporations pay their fair share in taxes. Its sole purpose is to cut critical programs like Medicaid, SNAP, housing assistance, and more.
If Republicans were serious about reducing our country’s national debt, they would focus on making the rich and big corporations pay their fair share of taxes instead of trying to take healthcare, food, and shelter away from children and working families.
They could start by raising the corporate tax from 21% to at least 28% (still lower than the 35% corporate income tax rate under President Obama); fully funding the IRS to crack down on rich and corporate tax cheats; taxing the wealth gains of billionaires and ultra-millionaires; eliminating tax subsidies for oil and gas companies, which are destroying our environment; or raising the stock buybacks tax from 1% to 4%.
We’re fighting for each one of these vital reforms, which are all in President Biden’s proposed budget. Together, these policies serve as a roadmap to making the rich and big corporations pay their fair share so we can invest in working families and our future.
Write to Congress right now and tell them to make millionaires, billionaires, and large profitable corporations pay what they owe in taxes.
Time and again, congressional Republicans seek to protect their wealthy tax-cheat donors by defunding the IRS; they seek to maintain and expand tax breaks for their corporate and billionaire benefactors; and they do all of this on the backs of working families by cutting critical programs and services.
Tell Congress to make the super-rich and big corporations pay their fair share! Write to your senators and representative now.
Together, we’re fighting for a future that includes all of us. That starts with unrigging our economy and our tax code to make the wealthy and big corporations pay their fair share in taxes.
Thank you,
David Kass
