Dear Neighbor, I hope you are well! I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on several happenings in the district as well as Harrisburg.

On Monday, I attended an interesting Environmental Resources & Energy Committee Hearing on plugging and abandonment of conventional oil & gas wells. We heard from several experts in the field who provided testimony and answered questions about their experiences on uncapped oil and gas wells, the impact on our communities, and Pennsylvania’s efforts to mitigate the problem.
In session we passed a few bills that I want to highlight for you. We passed H.B. 1665, which would require schools to develop a comprehensive counseling program to ensure academic, career planning, and social and emotional concerns are addressed for every student. As it turns out, Pennsylvania is the only state in the nation that does not require standardized school counseling services in all schools.
We passed H.B. 1842, which would establish guidelines for communities to benefit from solar energy projects. We passed H.B. 777,which I co-sponsored, with bipartisan support to prohibit the sale and transfer of ghost gun parts without a background check or serial numbers. We passed H.B. 1443, which would establish safety standards for the design, installation, and maintenance of all playgrounds operated by Pennsylvania as well as public, private, and charter elementary and secondary schools, and approved child-care facilities.
We also passed H.B. 1601 that would provide people who are transitioning from incarceration to re-entry with driver’s licenses and work permits, and H.B. 1678, which would allow people who are incarcerated to receive credit for their participate in and completion of vocational and educational programs when up for parole consideration.
These bills now move to the state Senate for consideration. If you have questions about the bills mentioned, please contact my office by emailing [email protected].
