Dear John,

Happy National Reading Month!

As a former teacher and a mom to two avid readers, Callie understands just how important reading is for early childhood development. (Seriously – you have no idea just how many Percy Jackson books a kid can tear through in one summer).

Reading, along with high-quality public schools, is an essential way for our kids to get ahead, learn about the world, and prepare to become well-rounded members of society.

That's why it's so heartbreaking to see people, even in Michigan, lining up to ban books that they don't agree with.

Books can broaden our perspective, teach us compassion, and help us understand that we, as an American society, are great — not despite our differences — but because of them.

Callie will always defend our public schools from privatization – and stand up to the bullies who want to ban books in our local libraries. Will you chip in $10 today to help her meet her end-of-quarter goal?

Team Callie Barr
