PPADMV Supporter,
On behalf of Planned Parenthood Advocates for DC, Maryland, and NoVA, thank you to everyone who came out to the Supreme Court yesterday to remind the justices that they have no business deciding whether pregnant people should be able to access mifepristone — which is safe, effective, and FDA-approved. It’s not their job. Period.
As New York Attorney General Letitia James said during the rally, “We cannot allow anti-choice forces to make political decisions and ignore the facts, ignore the science, ignore the judgements of medical professions. Hell no!”
And the attacks keep coming.
In less than a month, on April 24, the Court will hear yet another case that could impact our reproductive freedom by determining whether extremist politicians can exploit the federal courts to prevent pregnant people from accessing their right to abortion in medical emergencies, granted under the federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). Sign the petition for court reform and look out for updates from PPADMV in the coming weeks for ways you can tell the justices that it’s not their place to weigh in on our reproductive rights. In the meantime, stay engaged by joining us tomorrow night (3/28) at 6 p.m. for Wine Down for Women’s History Month, a virtual moderated panel discussion about the intersectionality of disability and reproductive rights and a celebration of our power as disability, sexual, and reproductive rights activists.
PPADMV’s Franki McDaniel, Assistant Vice President of Policy and Advocacy, will moderate a conversation featuring Ola Ojewumi, Founder and Director, Project ASCEND; Heather Watkins, Disability Rights Advocate; Charlotte V. McClain-Nhlapo, Global Disability Advisor of the World Bank; and Jenny Wesberry, Director of Operations at DC SAFE.
