Medication abortion is health care — plain and simple.

Ayanna Pressley for Congress

Medication abortion is safe, effective, routine health care — plain and simple. But this week the Supreme Court began hearing arguments in a case that could restrict access to mifepristone, a pill that is widely used in medication abortions in America.

Supreme court to decide fate of access to abortion pill mifepristone

I still remember how I felt the day the corrupt Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade — knowing my daughter could grow up in a world where she has fewer rights than I grew up with. It broke my heart. A ban on mifepristone would mean this and more. It would push us closer to a full, nationwide abortion ban, disproportionately impact Black and brown people, and further rip away bodily autonomy for some of the most vulnerable communities.

We cannot let this happen. Abortion care is safe. Abortion care is a fundamental human right. Abortion care is health care. And this is a critical moment to keep fighting to make it so. I’ve fought back by successfully pushing the Biden Administration to expand access to mifepristone, and by introducing my Abortion Justice Act, which would systematically expand access to care and protect patients and providers from criminalization. But we need to continue to fight, and I can’t do this work without you.

If you’re able, please rush a donation to support our work defending, expanding, and restoring access to reproductive care across the country — like passing my Abortion Justice Act.

Let’s be clear: Over half of abortion care in America is medication abortion. And one in four women in this country seek it. Women that we know, love, and worship with. It is a simple and safe protocol where patients are prescribed two medications to end a pregnancy. But because of extremist Republicans and the right-wing majority in the Supreme Court, one of these medications — that has decades of scientific evidence to back up its safety — is under threat.

At a time when abortion access is already out of reach for millions after the fall of Roe, restricting mifepristone would further compromise abortion access across the country, including in states where the right to an abortion is protected, like my home state of Massachusetts.

We must keep working to affirm abortion care to the people who need it. By taking back the House, defeating the former occupant of the White House this November, and advancing critical legislation like my Abortion Justice Act, we can make abortion care readily available to all who seek it — without shame, stigma, or systemic barriers.

That’s what this movement is fighting for. Bold, unapologetic policy that affirms that abortion is healthcare and a human right. As right-wing extremists continue their coordinated attacks, I need your support to fight back and continue fighting for abortion rights.

So I’m asking: Will you make a donation to affirm abortion rights and reproductive justice for everyone, everywhere? We cannot allow Republicans or far-right judges to turn back the clock on our most fundamental rights.

Yours in service,

Ayanna
