Dear Supporter,

After a fight that took decades of grassroots organizing, relentless action from surrounding communities, and strategic legal partnerships, we have finally achieved an incredible milestone: coal free New England!

With an agreement to retire Merrimack and Schiller Stations, New England's last remaining coal-fired power plants, New England will be completely coal-free by 2028. This is a remarkable victory for cleaner air and healthier communities across the northeast!

This is the 380th and 381st coal plant retirements we've won through the collective advocacy of the Beyond Coal campaign. Together, our dedication to the fight to stop dirty coal will protect our air, climate, and future.

Local New Hampshire Sierra Club staff and volunteers have dedicated over twenty years of advocacy to this cause. Cathy Corkery, Senior Organizer of the New Hampshire Sierra Club, expressed, “Today, we celebrate as, at long last, New Hampshire joins our coal-free neighbors across New England. Nearby communities have long unjustly shouldered the burden of health and safety concerns caused by Merrimack Station and Schiller Stations’ pollution. Now, after years of advocacy by the local Sierra Club community, volunteers, advocates, and allies, an end is in sight."

Our work is not done. Together, we will continue to strive toward 100 percent clean energy across the entire nation, ensuring a future where clean air, water, and thriving communities are non-negotiable.
