Earlier this year, I began the process of exploring a run for Governor. Today, I'm excited to announce that we are making it official: I’m launching my campaign for Governor of California in 2026, after the conclusion of Governor Gavin Newsom's final term.

We have accomplished so much together over the years – as a Member of the Board of Equalization and in my two terms as State Controller, our state’s Chief Financial Officer. Together, we showed what a competent, accountable government can do.

Yet I'm also aware that what we have done in the past has not always worked. I’m hearing from people across the state that California is more out of balance than ever. The cost of housing, food, college, childcare and elder care — it’s all increasingly out of reach.

Things just aren’t adding up anymore. People worry we have no power over our future. But I know we do.
