Dear Friend,
Devoted PAWS supporters already know that Chicago, like every other major American city, is in the midst of a historic upswing in pet homelessness. Last year, Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC), the city impoundment facility, took in 1,198 more dogs and cats than the year before. With pet abandonment increasing and an already overcrowded facility, every animal at CACC faces an uncertain future. Sadly, euthanasia at the city pound was up 22.7% last year. More than 2,500 animals were euthanized for the first time since 2016.
To combat this rise, PAWS Chicago rescued 42% more pets from CACC in 2023 than in 2022. Now, we’re committed to doing more. And we’re asking for your help.
