John, Last night, I delivered my annual State of the State address from Owatonna High School. I was proud to report that the State of Minnesota is strong and getting stronger every day because we’re investing in what matters most – our children and our future. When voters elected our DFL majorities and gave us a historic mandate for action, we promised that we wouldn’t let a moment go to waste working to make Minnesota the best state in the country to live, work, and raise a family. From securing universal meals for our students to making the largest investment in public education in our state’s history to increasing teacher pay and expanding mental health resources, we’re delivering on that promise. And our work extends far beyond the classroom. We made a billion-dollar investment in affordable housing, outlawed conversion “therapy” for LGTBQ youth, enacted common-sense gun safety measures, codified protections for abortion and fertility treatments into law, and so much more. Minnesota is showing the rest of the country what it looks like to be a state that puts children first, stands up to bullies, and lifts everyone up. But let me be clear: None of our work would be possible without you and the support you give us. That’s why I’m following up personally this morning. Our first end-of-quarter fundraising deadline of this critical election year is coming up on Sunday, and we’re still trailing behind our budget target by more than $20,000.
