** EARN Notice March 2024
------------------------------------------------------------
Hi EARNers,
We are almost through the first quarter of 2024! As we move into Spring the days are getting longer, the weather is warmer, and trees and flowers are sprouting new life. I know that many of your state legislatures are still in session and many of you are working hard for policies that will support workers and families while also having to be on the defense against efforts to roll back hard-fought victories such as the right to join a union or limitations on the use of child labor. I hope that you are still able to take time to enjoy the season, take in the beauty around you, and recharge as we continue the fight. Know that the EARN team is here to support you and fight with you.
As part of the fight to empower workers, the EARN team will be rolling out the full Rooted in Racism and Economic Exploitation series over the course of this Spring and Summer. Many of you got a glimpse of the series when we released a summary of some of the key findings ([link removed]) at the end of last year. Over the next few months, we will be releasing updated and more in-depth reports and deep dives laying out the flaws of the conservative Southern economic development model. This model depends on low wages, lax regulations on businesses, a weak safety net, and is ferociously anti-union. With this project we demonstrate how this model has failed workers and families across the South and the potential harm facing the rest of the nation if it is adopted in other states and regions.
We hope that the findings from this series will be helpful to many of you in your work. We believe that working with our partners and allies in the states and at the national level, we can ensure workers and organizers across the country have access to the data and information they need as they fight for better policies from their political leaders.
In solidarity,
Chandra Childers
Senior State Policy and Economic Analyst
