You’ve likely been shocked and outraged by the endless reports of human rights abuses against migrants in detention camps along the border … the family separations … the abhorrent treatment of children … and the deaths of people – including children – in CBP and ICE custody.
TODAY (7/2), while members of Congress are home for the Fourth of July holiday, we’re joining with partner organizations and thousands of Americans nationwide to rally outside congressional district offices and demand action on this urgent humanitarian crisis.
During Trump’s presidential campaign and since his 2016 election, he has repeatedly outlined his xenophobic plans to target immigrants and narrow the rights of those in need of humanitarian aid. Over the past several months as more reports have surfaced about the conditions in which immigrants are detained at the border, it has become clear that the policies he has implemented are even more horrific than his rhetoric.
Immigrants in CBP and ICE custody have had to endure family separation, illegal denials of asylum hearings, untreated medical conditions, and more. Recent accounts from members of Congress who have visited border facilities indicate that detained immigrants and asylum seekers are being held in overcrowded cells, forced to sleep on concrete floors, and even have to drink from toilets when they are denied running water.
This is NOT our American Way. And we cannot stand by while these abuses are committed in our name.
The humanitarian crisis at the border is not going to stop until we demand that the administration #CloseTheCamps!
