Live Updates: Supreme Court Hears Arguments on Abortion Pill Access

A decision by the justices could cut off prescriptions by telemedicine and pills sent by mail, and also have implications for the regulatory authority of the FDA

A right-wing special interest group is challenging the FDA's regulation over mifepristone – a safe and commonly used abortion pill. The ADF is the same group responsible for challenging and helping to overturn Roe v. Wade.

To try and end access to a prescription drug that has been safely used in the vast majority of U.S. abortions since 2000, the ADF is attempting to resurrect an archaic law from 1873 and asking judges to override medical and scientific experts.

We can’t let these attacks on reproductive freedoms continue. If you’re ready to elect leaders who will fight to codify reproductive rights into law, chip in $5 or whatever you can to my campaign today >> [link removed]

As a scientist, I believe in looking at the facts and the data, so here they are: More than 99% of patients who have a medication abortion have no serious complications. Mifepristone was approved by the FDA more than 20 years ago and has been used by more than 5 million women in the United States.

I am not surprised by this latest attack on reproductive rights. Dangerous organizations like the ADF rely on pseudoscience to try and defend their outdated, self-serving agendas. But let's set the record straight on something — this case is about more than FDA approval. It is another step in the extremists’ plan to ban abortion nationwide.

I will continue to stand alongside the majority of Americans, which includes the majority of New Yorkers, who know that reproductive care IS health care. Personal decisions about reproductive health care — including medication abortion s — should be left between women and their doctors, and not the minority of anti-choice extremists.

We can’t afford any more anti-choice, anti-freedom politicians in Congress. Can I count on you to chip in $5 to help me build a winning campaign so that I can fight to protect and enshrine reproductive freedom in Washington? >> [link removed]

Onward,

Nancy
