The Supreme Court justices aren't supposed to act along partisan lines, but cases like the 1️⃣ Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization that gutted Roe v. Wade , the 2️⃣ rejection of student loan forgiveness, and the 3️⃣ allegations of justices being bought by big corporations are all major causes for concern.
But even before the 6-3 right-wing supermajority took control of the Supreme Court, I've been the leading voice for court reform in Congress. As the ranking member of the Judiciary Subcommittee overseeing courts, I was working hard to pass legislation that would :
📍Expand the Supreme Court and district courtships
📍Require that the justices follow a binding code of ethics, transparency, and recusal standards
📍Establish term limits
📍Require transparency measures for amicus briefs
📍Modernize the federal courts’ record systems
📍Require the courts to protect their employees from workplace harassment
We need court reform now more than ever, and I won't stop working in the House until we have a fair and just system.
