Jack, billionaires own the media. Rupert Murdoch and Fox News, Elon Musk and Twitter/X, Jeff Bezos and the Washington Post—and these are just the most famous examples. The Los Angeles Times, the Boston Globe, and many, many others are owned by less recognizable billionaires.
Their reach, as you can see, touches every mass medium—print, social media, television. Billionaires already have extraordinary influence over public affairs, and their ownership of the media amplifies that.
But here's one bit of good news: No billionaire owns Daily Kos.
Daily Kos is unique in the media world in that we rely on neither a billionaire backer nor ad revenue to make ends meet. Our greatest source of income comes directly from readers like you, each donating a few bucks at a time. It's not easy doing things this way, but we like it anyway because it makes us a truly independent news outlet and activism hub.
In order to keep going, we have to hit our monthly fundraising goals, and right now we're coming up short. In fact, I'm beginning to think we aren't going to make it this month. That's why I am asking you for help. We need to raise $152,075 before the end of the month. Please support Daily Kos with a donation of $5 or more right now.
PLEASE DONATE
Thank you,
Michael Langenmayr, Daily Kos
