Jasper County Emergency Management has developed a STOP THE BLEED® Program and a webpage with STOP THE BLEED® Information. “On this webpage, you'll discover how StTOP THE BLEED® empowers individuals and organizations to take action, learn about the importance of swift intervention, and access resources to become certified in bleeding control techniques. Join us in becoming part of the solution — together, we can make a difference in preserving lives and promoting safety in our communities.”

The team offers hands-on training workshops lead by certified Instructors, Educational resources, and community partnerships.

The University of Michigan-Flint Department of Public Safety and Security

(UMFDPSS) continues prioritizing the safety and well-being of its students, faculty, staff, and visitors through various initiatives. In 2023, UMFDPSS coordinated the purchase and installation of STOP THE BLEED® kits across the campus, strategically placing them alongside Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). Furthermore, UMFDPSS offers comprehensive training sessions to faculty, staff, and students to ensure proficiency in STOP THE BLEED® techniques, empowering individuals to respond effectively to bleeding emergencies.

This initiative serves multiple purposes:

Enhancing Emergency Response: By strategically placing Stop the Bleed kits alongside AEDs, UMFDPSS ensures that critical medical supplies are readily available in case of emergencies. This proactive approach improves the campus’s overall emergency response capabilities and increases the likelihood of positive outcomes in bleeding emergencies.

Strengthening Community Engagement: Stop the Bleed training sessions serve as a platform for UMFDPSS officers to engage directly with students, faculty, and staff. Through these sessions, officers build positive relationships with the community, enhancing trust and collaboration between law enforcement and the university population.

Promoting Safety Culture: By integrating Stop the Bleed training into

campus life and responding to requests for training from student groups, staff, and faculty, UMFDPSS fosters a culture of safety and preparedness throughout the university. This proactive approach reinforces the importance of emergency preparedness and encourages active participation in safety initiatives. As of this date we have trained over 200 individuals in Stop the Bleed, and the requests keep coming in.

Overall, the STOP THE BLEED® initiative implemented by UMFDPS improves the campus’s emergency response capabilities and fosters a safer and more resilient community. By empowering individuals with life-saving skills and building positive relationships through training sessions, UMFDPSS continues to demonstrate its commitment to ensuring the safety and well- being of all university community members.

Churches in New Jersey Getting ‘Bleeding

Control Kits’

Members from different houses of worship were invited earlier this month to gather at Guru Nanak Mission Gurudwara, a worship space for Sikhs in Oakland in Bergen County. But, they weren’t there for a worship service. Instead, they gathered on a Friday night to participate in a training session and receive a key item — a bleeding control kit.
The state Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness began distributing bleeding control kits to thousands of houses of worship in New Jersey this month. The kits are designed to give churches, mosques, synagogues, temples and other places of worship medical items to treat victims of potential active shooters before first responders arrive at the scene.

The state will provide roughly 7,100 bleeding control kits to 6,400 houses of worship within one year as part of the program’s first phase, officials said.

“We’re not looking to essentially train doctors,” said Indy Samra, a member of the executive council of the Homeland Security office’s Interfaith Advisory Council, who helped coordinate the session. “We’re providing everyday individuals with the means to provide first aid.”

The program, which officials launched March 8, was created to bridge the gap between awareness and practical knowledge for mass casualty events, as well as help foster relationships between religious communities and law enforcement officers.
