Puget Sound Salmon Recovery Council to discuss timeline for Tribal consultation and the draft of Salmon Recovery Plan Addendum

The Puget Sound Salmon Recovery Council will meet online on Thursday, March 28, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Meeting highlights include:


* A presentation and discussion about legislative activities and updates. Partnership staff will provide a report on the 2024 Washington State legislative session and the next steps looking forward to 2025. Members the Salmon Recovery Council's Legislative Subcommittee will provide a report on legislative activities and next steps. Presentation by Don Gourlie, legislative policy director at the Puget Sound Partnership, and Mindy Roberts, co-vice chair of the Salmon Recovery Council and Puget Sound program director at Washington Conservation Action.??


* A presentation and discussion about federal updates and Puget Sound Day on the Hill. Agency staff will provide an update on the status of priority federal policies and appropriations related to Puget Sound recovery and the plans for the Puget Sound Day on the Hill event, which will take place in Washington D.C. the week of May 13-17. Salmon Recovery Council members will have an opportunity to discuss and suggest policy priorities and messages to be delivered to Congressional offices and federal agencies during the event. Presentation by Ahren Stroming, special assistant for federal affairs at the Puget Sound Partnership.

* A presentation and discussion about the Tribal consultation and public comment period for the addendum to the regional chapter of the Salmon Recovery Plan. The addendum will guide the Puget Sound regional salmon recovery organization's actions over the next decade. This session will include a review of Tribal input and the public comment period that will be incorporated into the addendum. Staff will also engage members in a discussion regarding the fifty actions identified in the draft addendum for which the council may have a role. Presentation by Melissa Speeg, salmon recovery manager at the Puget Sound Partnership, and Ashley Bagley, salmon policy advisor at the Puget Sound Partnership.


* A presentation and discussion about the recent activities of the Salmon Recovery Council's Accelerating Progress Committee. The committee is developing a suite of actions for the Salmon Recovery Council to accelerate the implementation of salmon habitat restoration projects in Puget Sound. This session will provide a report on their recent progress and the development of their work plan. Presentation by Kit Crump, co-vice chair of the Salmon Recovery Council and floodplain services supervisor, Snohomish County Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and Cindy Wolf, Salmon Recovery Council member and San Juan County Council member.
