Thanks to you, the Ranked Choice Voting Local Option bill passed out of the Elections Committees in the House and Senate ahead of policy bill deadlines last week!
Following the legislative break (tomorrow - Monday), we anticipate another round of hearings in Local and State Government Committees and will let you know as soon as they are scheduled.
To recap, the RCV Local Option bill, carried by Senator Morrison and Rep. Cedrick Frazier, gives more local jurisdictions — cities, counties, and school districts — the power to adopt RCV if they wish and provides standards for consistent implementation and certification of automatic tabulation systems. The bill is supported by Secretary Steve Simon, the League of Minnesota Cities, the Association of Minnesota Counties, the League of Women Voters, Clean Elections Minnesota, along with a coalition of union and community organizations.
Help us get the bill over the finish line by supporting our advocacy efforts! Please make a contribution by March 31 in whatever amount you can right now and help us meet our $10,000 goal — we are just $4,700 shy. Thank you for your support!
We’ll be in touch after the legislative break to let you know about next steps! In the meantime, the break is a great opportunity to talk with your legislators in the community — they’ll be in the district, not at the Capitol, and may be holding community meetings. Please watch for opportunities to meet with them in the community and let them know that the RCV Local Option bill is a priority for you.
Again, thank you for everything you are doing to help us pass RCV legislation this session and continuing to build momentum to expand this critical reform in Minnesota!
