Hi ,

Los Angeles is hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2028 – but we’re not waiting to get ready, we’re preparing now. Earlier this month you may have seen that I led a 3-day delegation to Paris to get a behind the scenes look at how they’re preparing for the Olympics and to generate innovative housing solutions, green transportation and infrastructure projects.

I was joined on the trip by Council President Paul Krekorian, Councilmember Traci Park, Councilmember Katy Yaroslavsky, LA Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins, LA84 Foundation President and CEO Renata Simril and Priscilla Cheng, Senior Vice President for Government Relations at LA28.

You can read more about the trip here ([link removed]) and watch our recap of the trip here. ([link removed])

Earlier this month, our Los Angeles delegation was in Paris to get ahead of the 2028 Olympics and Paralympic Games.
But the work didn’t stop while we were there. During the visit, Los Angeles continued to bring unhoused Angelenos inside urgently, eliminate red tape in the way of saving lives, create a safer city, improve sustainable green practices and more:
* More Angelenos Housed – The Mayor’s Office conducted Inside Safe operations in Downtown Los Angeles ([link removed]) and Hollywood ([link removed]) bringing more than 20 Angelenos inside.
* Close to $1 Billion in Transportation Support Secured – The L.A. region secured nearly $900 million in funding to strengthen critical infrastructure, expand the Metro Rail system and reconnect communities ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Read more on KTLA here ([link removed].) .
* Red Tape Eliminated – I advanced a new partnership with Governor Gavin Newsom to address jurisdictional issues that have sometimes paralyzed efforts to house people living under freeways or on freeway on-ramps. Read more from the Eastsider here ([link removed]) .
* Locking Arms To Deliver Results – The City of Los Angeles secured $9.34 million in congressionally directed spending to continue confronting the homelessness crisis and making affordable housing more available throughout Los Angeles. Read more from FOX 11 here ([link removed]) .
* New Ways To Build a Greener Los Angeles – We announced new funding to continue our work building a greener L.A. – this time with a focus on composting. Read more on KTLA here ([link removed]) .
* Steps Towards Making Los Angeles Safer – In a promising sign of action we’ve taken to address recruitment, a record amount of applicants was reported by LAPD in January. Read more on KFI here ([link removed]) .
* Record Stormwater Storage – After record storms last month, we were able to announce more than 13.5 billion gallons of stormwater captured during February of 2024, which is about 5 billion more gallons than February of 2023. Read more on ABC 7 here ([link removed]) .

Together, I know that Los Angeles will be ready to welcome the world.
