We broke the story first for Arizona.

Courier

Hey John – it’s the Copper Courier staff. We’re COURIER’s Arizona newsroom – one of ten COURIER newsrooms in battleground states across the country.

We recently broke the story about PragerU’s partnership with Arizona’s state superintendent. The partnership could put pundits like Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson in classrooms across the state, indoctrinating our kids with right-wing propaganda.

We’ll talk more about it in a sec, but if you support rigorous local journalism like this, please consider giving $10 to fund our newsrooms!

So what’s the deal with PragerU and Arizona schools?

Well, John, PragerU is a right-wing media company that makes pseudo-educational content designed to brainwash viewers. Some of their most famous content includes courses taught by Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson, cartoons featuring Christopher Columbus and Frederick Douglas downplaying the awful legacy of slavery, and lessons like “How to be a Rational Patriot” or “Mateo backs the blue.”

Arizonans should know their kids may soon learn right-wing misinformation in public school classrooms. But with local newsrooms shutting their doors or getting gobbled up by right-wing media conglomerates, trustworthy, local reporting is hard to come by.

That’s why we were proud to be the first to break the story.

While newsrooms around the country are pivoting to the right or closing their doors altogether, COURIER’s reporters cover the most important stories, focusing on the facts.

We know how essential this coverage is, which is why COURIER is hiring more reporters to cover breaking news like this, and even opening another newsroom in Texas later this year.

Here’s the thing: COURIER doesn’t operate on a for-profit model. To keep this important work going, we rely on generous supporters like you. Can we count on you to give $10 so we can keep breaking these important stories?
