Dear John,
Defiance...
We’re seeing a lot that going on right now.
It’s happening in Maine in our Bangor Christian Schools case.
And it’s happening in California in our California Charter School case.
State government officials are ignoring recent Supreme Court rulings and instead pushing their anti-faith agenda even harder.
It’s Time to Fight the Good Fight for Faith Tell California to Put the Constitution First
The bottom-line is this: anti-faith bureaucrats are placing their beliefs above the Constitution. And we won’t tolerate it anymore.
In 2022, we fought together and won a landmark decision at the Supreme Court in Carson v. Makin.
This Carson decision affirmed that families and schools cannot be prevented from participating in government programs for religious reasons.
But in response to this clear precedent, California has chosen to ignore this Supreme Court ruling.
Let me explain.
California offers charter school programs to assist homeschooling families.
Parents who homeschool their children through these charter school programs receive an account with funds to purchase educational materials and curriculum, unless the parents choose curriculum from a religious publisher.
They are being told that, because of their commitment to educate their children according to their faith, they cannot participate in this program that is available to everyone else.
And violating this policy not only results in the funds being restricted or credit for coursework being rejected, but worse.
One charter school program went as far as to expel a family because the mother selected a religious curriculum for her son.
This type of blatant discrimination by the state isn’t just wrong...It’s unconstitutional.
Stand with Families Who Want to Teach their Children According to their Faith
This injustice strikes at the heart of our nation’s commitment to religious freedom.
Because it not just about families in California.
The Supreme Court precedent ensures that religious families all across America can participate in these types of programs without the fear of discrimination from the government.
But in order to preserve the Carson ruling, you and I must stand-up to these types of challenges.
Otherwise, we could lose the rights we have fought so hard to reclaim.
That's why we're standing shoulder-to-shoulder with these homeschooling families, fighting this battle for their rights in federal court.
We can't, however, win this fight without you.
We need your help to ensure that this defiance is stopped...that the rule of law is followed...and that the rights of these parents to educate their children according to their faith are respected.
Your support will tip the scales so we can defend these families and uphold our sacred right of religious liberty.
By standing with us today, you're not just supporting these families in California—you're standing up for the fundamental rights of all Americans.
Will you make your best gift today to support our fight for faithful families in California and across the country?
Thank you for your unwavering support,
Kelly
