We know these are incredibly tough times. We wouldn’t be continuing with our campaign (which takes funding) if the fight to flip the Senate wasn’t critical. This pandemic highlights the need for better leadership. We understand you must care for yourself and your loved ones. We completely understand if you can’t invest in the campaign right now. Stay well. kg
John,

Kimberly here. This is the end of the month and end of the quarter, and that usually means a big push to raise as much as we can.

But this is not business as usual. These are frightening, unprecedented times.

That’s why I’ve largely taken over writing these emails myself. If I’m asking you to support this campaign, whether with dollars, sharing our posts on social media or telling people about our campaign, you need to hear directly from me now. So here I am.

Let’s get real. I’m scared . . . for my son, my elder parents, my brother (who lives with a disability) and my sister-in-law (who works in a busy grocery store), for my friends and for you. I was scared for our campaign manager, Samantha, who we suspect had COVID-19 and was very sick for the last two weeks. She seems on the mend, thankfully.

Today I received a text that another of our staffers is in the hospital. I’m scared for her, too, and for all of us.

And you know what? It’s ok to feel scared. We just can’t let fear paralyze us. Feel whatever you feel for a few minutes, then figure out what you can do, what you have the power to do to move forward.

That’s how I’m getting through each day. What keeps me going are messages like the one I received a few days ago from an ICU nurse in Des Moines. He said they’re being told to reuse N95 masks for entire days (these are single-use masks). This endangers patients and endangers him. He has an infant daughter. He asked me to do whatever I can to get them more personal protective equipment (PPE). I called our Governor’s office, our US Senators and Representatives. I wish I were already a US Senator so I could do more.

Our campaign must keep going strong and that’s why we can’t stop fundraising - because we need more regular people in Congress to stand up for working people like the ICU nurse who contacted me. Like I keep saying, “we should represent us.”

When Iowa had eight confirmed COVID-19 cases confined to just one city, our campaign converted to 100% digital/online outreach. We must buy more ads and ramp up our online presence to reach voters we can’t visit in person. And we need to keep our staff paid during this time.

Check out the quick video I made and hear directly from me. ([link removed])

Right now, we’re around $6,000 short of meeting our March goal. If we don’t close that gap, we can’t buy the ads we need, pay for our staff and other campaign essentials. We’ll risk falling behind Ernst and her giant GOP war chest. Can you please help us meet our goal by midnight tonight?

Before this pandemic, our campaign was powered by small-dollar donations - a true sign of our people-first focus. Understandably, those donations are on the decline during this crisis.

If you have a few extra dollars, please first donate to a friend who needs help or to an organization helping others during this time. If you have a few dollars after that, we’re asking you to please invest in our movement now. We need those who have more resources to lift up this campaign. Thank you.

Your support means the world to us. Please stay safe and stay well.

Onward to justice for all,
P.S. Do you have questions for me, or about our campaign? Would you like to speak with me personally before investing in our campaign? I’d love to speak with you! Please email me at [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) and we’ll set up a time to talk. Be well, kg
