The Beauty and Strength of the Colorado River
Through photography and essays, Pete McBride’s The Colorado River: Chasing Water is a celebration of one of America’s most valuable and iconic rivers and a warning about America’s Western water crisis.

Acclaimed photographer Pete McBride has put his camera to use to help save his backyard river, the Colorado, which he has documented for two decades from source to sea. This challenged resource supplies drinking water to forty million Americans, supports five percent of the country’s GDP, and has been a large focus of the National Audubon Society’s conservation work.

Through McBride’s photography and his own words, as well as essays on climate change and river overuse, we witness the stark reality of our water crisis but also the remarkable beauty and resilience of this ephemeral source of life. Now available wherever books are sold.
