Pat Arrowsmith at first Aldermaston march

A celebration of Pat Arrowsmith: the extraordinary peace activist

There is still time to reserve your spot at our event at the LSE Library, celebrating the life and work of Pat Arrowsmith, the extraordinary peace campaigner and organiser of the first Aldermaston March in 1958, the single event that most put CND on the public map at that time.

Nuclear exploitation: how uranium mining harms communities webinar

With nuclear often wrongly touted as a 'clean source' of electricity generation, an aspect seldom discussed in Britain's debate about nuclear power is the sourcing of the uranium needed to fuel its reactors. Uranium mining leaves the surrounding environment contaminated and has had devastating health consequences for those, mainly Indigenous peoples, who live and work near these mines.

Join CND and Beyond Nuclear on Thursday, 11 April, for a webinar exploring these unacceptable harms, where we will hear from experts, and Indigenous campaigners opposing uranium mining where they live - which is often far away from where the power created is consumed.

  • Thursday, 11 April, 6:30-7:30pm
  • Online, register here

With guest speakers: Carletta Tilousi, from the Havasupai Tribal Council – guardians of the Grand Canyon; Bruno Chareyron, Scientific Advisor at CRIIRAD (Commission for Independent Research and Information about RADiation); Linda Pentz Gunter, Beyond Nuclear. Chaired by Kate Hudson, CND General Secretary.

Route announcement for Saturday's national march for Palestine

Yesterday, the UN Security Council passed a resolution calling for a two-week pause to the war in Gaza, after the US dropped its usual veto and abstained from the vote. While this shows that pressure is mounting on Israel's allies to take action in the face of an imposed famine and staggering civilian casualties, a temporary truce is not enough.

Only a lasting ceasefire can stop the bombardment that has killed over 32,000 Palestinians and create the space for enough food and medicine to enter Gaza. Join us this Saturday, 30 March, to call on the British government to support a permanent ceasefire and suspend its arms transfers and military support for Israel's war.

  • Assemble 12 noon, Russell Square, London
  • March to Trafalgar Square
  • Accessible route TBC, details will be posted to our event page here
