Friends,
Since 2002, the Secular Coalition for America (SCA) has worked to provide nontheistic Americans a unified voice in Washington by facilitating cooperation and strategic coordination between our member organizations.
Part of our work is shining a spotlight on each of those organizations and this month we’re proud to present The Freethought Society!

A founding member of the SCA, The Freethought Society (FS) advocates for the separation of religion and government, freedom of expression, acceptance of the nontheist life stance, and skepticism, as well as promotes and organizes humanistic community service.
This year, the 100-year anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, FS is holding as many events as possible on the history of the women’s suffrage movement. That work supplements college voter registration drives—theatrical presentations designed to educate as well as motivate—that The Freethought Society hosts annually each March to recognize Women’s History Month.
A national leader in reinforcing that secular Americans consistently work to make a positive impact on their communities, The Freethought Society holds a number of service events, including:
* Helping Hands (providing services to seniors);
* Sole Searching (gathering and donating sports shoes for the homeless community);
* Jump into the Jean Pool (gathering and donating sturdy jeans for the homeless community);
* Hub of Hope Dinner Service (serving dinner to the homeless and needy in downtown Philadelphia in partnership with the Muslim community); and
* Philabundance (packing food for the needy and the homeless in partnership with various Christian groups).

Margaret Downey, The Freethought Society’s Founder and President, highlights the positive impact of their longstanding membership with the Secular Coalition for America.
“Affiliation with SCA helps The Freethought Society advocate for nontheist unity, cooperative events, the sharing of new ideas, and the building a non-competitive nontheist community.”
